Here are some of the ways we can all protect our water resources:
Plant a rain garden to with native plants to beautify your property and slow stormwater
run-off.
Plant trees to retain water, provide oxygen while cleaning the air, and store carbon to protect the atmosphere.
Recharge Garden / Bioretention Bed
Avoid the overuse of fertilizers and do not apply them before a heavy rainfall.
Use alternatives to chemical pesticides when possible. Follow instructions carefully; many household products made to exterminate pests are toxic to humans, animals aquatic organisms and plants.
Don't put grease or hazardous products down drains.
Have your septic system pumped at least every three years and inspected.
Maintain stormwater drainage systems on your property.
Reduce the areas of mown lawn. Plant groundcovers and grow a buffer of native plants on the banks of streams and ponds.
Retain fallen leaves on your property and compost organic waste to add nutrients back to your soil.
Use native plants in your landscaping; they require less water and maintenance.
